Early geologists tended to believe that many landforms were evidence of an ancient global flood, based on the Biblical record of Noah’s Flood. But by 1850 geologists generally no longer believed in such a flood, because there seemed to be too little water on Earth to produce a global flood and because it seemed unlikely that Noah’s family would not have been able to build a large enough ship to hold all of the species of land animals and they would not have been able to gather all those species onto the ship and to feed and take care of them all during the flood etc. The geologists were too hasty coming to those conclusions. If ocean waters were warmed enough, they could have expanded enough to cover the continents, if mountains had not yet formed. Asteroid impacts could have helped heat the oceans as well as produce tsunamis to flood the continents and even to break up the former supercontinent, Pangaea, and build mountains. Noah’s family could have had help to build the ark and to gather infant versions of all species and the species might have been in hibernation. Geology shows that the Earth (like other planets) has suffered a great deal of meteor bombardment periodically, which has also produced earthquakes, volcanism, floods, erosion and extreme climate changes. Creationist scientists now generally do much better science than do mainstream scientists, but Creationists are not infallible and they do make some major mistakes, IMO.
